Ning ZHAN is an associate professor at the School of Journalism and Communication, Shanghai International Studies University. He obtained his Ph.D. in Communication from Zhejiang University and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Sociology at Syracuse University.
Zhan’s present research areas encompass the history of social sciences, medical anthropology, and Chinese studies. He has published numerous articles, book chapters, and book reviews in both English and Chinese. Additionally, he serves as a peer reviewer for several esteemed academic journals.
Zhan’s projects in the realm of Communication revolve around key concepts within the field, tracing their historical development, academic debates, and evolution over time. His empirical research on mental health and mass psychology employs mixed methods, including ethnography, in-depth interviews, and surveys, to explore the living conditions of contemporary Chinese individuals. These efforts have garnered recognition through several research grant awards.
