SISU and PP Sports launch joint program for sports journalism

The School of Journalism and Communication (SJC) at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) signed a joint development program with PP Sports, a media institution of online sports last Monday.

Yan Yining, deputy dean of SJC, described during the opening ceremony the reasons for staring the cooperation, including that the school focuses on globalization and practical teaching.

Mr. Zhang Xun, CEO of PP Sports, said he was considering employing SISU students as highly skilled translators to translate top sports events which are mostly broadcast in English. “SISU students have the language advantage comparing to students from other universities, since most of the official languages of the top sports events is English.” Zhang said. “That’s why the cooperation between SISU and PP Sports is a natural result. Zhang also answered some students’ questions, most of which were about sports reporting and the differences between the traditional media and the new media.

Xu Jun, SISU alumnus who now works for PP Sports as a director, suggested that students should practice sports reporting on the campus, and he promised more support for improving students’ reporting skills.

Zhang, Yan and Xu unveiled the nameplate of the program and another 24 students attending the ceremony. Gu Tianzhu, a teacher of SJC and one of the directors of the program, hosted the ceremony.
