SISU scholars of global journalism released report on Shanghai cultural events

The latest Report on 2016 Shanghai Great Cultural Events, written by the Research Center for Global Public Opinion of China of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), drew public attention at the Forum about organizing 2017 Shanghai Great Cultural Events on Feb. 23, 2017.

The report analyzes all the major cultural activities and international competitions held in Shanghai in 2016, which includes Shanghai Television Festival, Shanghai International Film Festival, China Shanghai International Arts Festival, Shanghai Music Festival, Shanghai International Ballet Competition and Shanghai Isaac Stern International Violin Competition.

In order to make it a leading report, the center’s working team had observed over 15,000 international media organizations through a database with 28 languages had collected more than 23,000  bilingual questionnaires  on the we-media and had organized over 200 in-depth interviews with activity participants. The team also had assessed the international influence of 2016 Shanghai Great Cultural Events according to nine measurement index - the number of media reports, reporting themes, hot spots, reporting reviews, reported celebrities and their we-media situation, people’s impression on Shanghai, and audience satisfaction.

The team members include some SISU scholars, Professor Guo Ke, Professor Yan Yining, Professor Chen Peiqin, ProfessorWu Ying, Dr. Zhu Lian and Dr. Xiang Debao, and 43 undergraduate and postgraduate students from SISU’s School of Journalism and Communication. After one-year effort, the team published a general report and six divisional reports on the major events.

SISU’s Research Center for Global Public Opinion of China successfully competed for the opportunity to produce report on cultural activities managed by Shanghai  Municipal Administration of Culture during early 2016. The Centre was also responsible for undertaking Shanghai City Image Reports for last 3 three years, which benefits plays an important role in Shanghai’s government on diplomatic policy decision-making.
